Today is a busy day. we are off to church this morning for the celebration! And then home to cook and prepare for Easter dinner and Egg fights... there will be pictures!

No Sewing today, although I do have my sewing machine in the car. I picked it up from Bernina, and they are promising it will sew like a dream now that they have fixed all the bits and pieces that needed fixing! We will see on Monday becasue it will be a sew day Saturday, only its Monday, Day!

I have a question, an update and some Exciting News!
Next year, I am going to be doing some demos and I am going to start with a quiz. Each day for the next 15 days I am going to ask one of the questions from Septembers Quiz and I hope you will comment so I can get a better idea of how to approach each of the questions for the demo's. Sewing Update:Yesterday, I actually got some work done on the InkLingo Mystery Quilt. I was so excited to just have time to download Clue # 1! Then I read through it and decided it would be a breeze. It was all about choosing fabric!
3 hours later I had come to a decision!!!!!!! 3 hours! Not as easy as I thought. First off, it had to come from my stash because I am on a NBF (no buy fabric) diet! Secondly just when I would choose a fabric, I wouldn't have enough. So that meant starting over. Humph! It was hard work, but I persevered and here are the fabrics I choose.
Here they are all washed... Yes I said washed... And ready to go. That green thing in the middle right is my colour catcher... I guess the dark green bled a little. Good thing I threw in a colour catcher!
I cut out the freezer paper pieces I needed for clue 2 and called it a day! Put my feet up and watched NCIS and NCIS LA. No handwork, no IPad. Just me and TV!

I have been "Join this site" ing for the past few days, at all the blogs I stop at. I was thinking how nice it would be to have a lot of people "Join this Site" at my blog so I would have more than 26 followers. I suspect I have some followers that follow by email, but it's not the same. I don't really know you are there! I can guess, because I can go and find out how many people read my blog, but it is just really exciting to see that someone has "joined". And I figure if I feel that way I bet most everyone feels that way, so I am trying to join as many blogs as I read. Doesn't really change anything, just makes it more fun for the blogger, I think!

Saturday Sewing
Yesterday was a great sewing day!
Only problem was that it was also a great chatting day. Between the chatting, with my friends at our little sewing groups sew day, I did manage to sew three more rows on my Kaffe quilt.
The hardest part of sewing this quilt has been putting the blocks into rows in the right colour sequences. At first I used sticky dots but they kept falling off and, it became very difficult to keep track of which blocks came next. So I took flower head pins in all the same colour and marked them 1 to 40 with a permanent marker. Now I just pin the blocks in order and the pins stay put until I am finished sewing. So far it has worked perfectly.
I bound my two little Easter mug rugs and my granddaughters little Easter wall hanging.
I cut out about 100 small hexi's for my Christmas tablecloth and last but not least I put together a quilt I started 3 years ago.

Saturday sew day! Yahoo
Today is my Saturday Sew day and I am very excited. I am going to work on my Kaffe quilt and have the whole day to do it!
Of course I have other pieces I am taking with me. Boredom sets in and I often need a change. Probably why I have so many UFO's on my plate.

First of all I pre-ordered this book, several months ago, so I had no idea what to expect until I received it. I had read about it on a couple of blogs, but other than the fact that it was a Kaffe book, the inside was a complete surprise to me.
I dove into the book, in my usual make haste style, and started to make the quilt on Page 144, Overlapping Tiles, using fabrics I have on hand, (I have a lot) because I am on a NBF diet this year. (No Buy fabric... and I am starving!) for the rest of the projects I plan to make, I will wait till I am off the diet! (The shot cottons are beautiful.)
First I have to explain that I had no idea what shot fabric was until I had lunch with my friend Aimee yesterday. If I had bothered to read the introduction to the book prior to meeting with Aimee I would have been able to answer intelligently when she said..."you do know what shot cotton is, don't you?" and no I didn't... She explained what "shot" anything was to me, and I immediately visualized those beautiful silks with their different coloured warps and wefts!
Kaffe explains it... "I then selected one of these solid stripe colors for each of my color moods. This selection was sent back to the weavers for them to make my first shot cotton color range. I had grown up loving the magical shimmer of shot silks - magenta warp with a scarlet weft would have me gasping with excitement. My solid cotton fabrics, with their differently colored warp and weft, have the same sort of shimmer, just more matte so a bit more subtle."
The Fly Leaf on the cover describes the book... "In this bold and colorful collection, Fassett shows us yet again how deep his creative genius runs. Inspired by worldwide travels and a plethora of ethnic textiles, including the quilts of the Amish and from Gee's Bend in America, Japanese all indigo quilts, suzanis from the Caucuses, and Pakistani kanthas, the projects featured in this book include full sized bed and wall quilts as well as smaller pieces that can be completed more quickly, such as throws, table runners and pillows".
As I wandered through the pages I was overwhelmed, by the beautiful pictures and of course, in Kaffe style, the colours and exuberance jumped off each page as I passed by.
There are projects in all shapes and sizes in the book as well as beginner to advance techniques. Its a great book if you just want to kick back and ohh and ahh, but for those of you who are like me and can't wait to start a new project, there are any one of 24 quilts that you can get started at, tonight!
I got my book from Amazon.ca, and I know it is available at Amazon.com and Amazon.uk. the book I got is hardcover, it was just released February 26, 2013, so you may want to wait for the soft cover edition which I am sure will be out in the future.
But I kinda like having this beautiful hard covered, sheathed book and it will find a home on my coffee table for browsing!

International Quilt Day

Before you start a sew-a-thon you need to fortify your body! I did that with my Oatmeal Recipe!
3 tbsp oats
3 tbsp apple sauce
1 tsp (or more) of cinnamon
2 tbsp of raisins
2 tbsp of Chia seeds
And 1/2 cup of water
Stir it up and put it in the microwave for 2 - 3 minutes on high. Add coconut milk to cool and eat it up!

Making a 20" block takes longer than, 15 minutes, which is how long I planned to spend on this block. Add that to the 30 half square triangles (which are not a favorite of mine) and it was two hours before I was done!
Although I must admit, I was interrupted by a FaceTime call from my granddaughter who wanted to share her families mini vacation with me. We had a little tour of her "amazing" hotel room. It's amusing to me the things that entertain a seven year old.
And In between all the half square triangles, a few friends and I, started an iPhone-A-thon so we could keep in touch with each other while we sewed.
After lunch, I started one of the Easter projects from my March Newsletter, I wasn't really pleased with my fabric choices so I probably will make it again. But not today.
After I was finished piecing my runner, I made two little mug mats using the egg cup pattern. The great thing about the mug rugs is that I get to practice my Domestic machine quilting. I have been a longarm quilter for 10 years, so believe it or not, quilting on my little Bernina is very hard! But I am getting there.
Then it was supper time! And after I ate, any thoughts of returning to the sewing room were gone! I had good intentions to go back and do some paper piecing blocks. It didn't happen!
But to end the night off, I went and enjoyed one of my favorite videos.

Quilters blog hop party
Welcome to everyone hopping around in blog land for the Blog Hop Party. A huge thank you to Michelle for organizing this event. It’s sure to be a lot of fun.
Quilting is my passion and I love to share my projects with everyone. With 9 grandchildren, I am always busy sharing my love through quilting with them. Everyone has a quilt or two and the requests for new ones continue as they grow older.
My favorite thing to do is to read other quilters' blogs. I glean so much information from the 400+ blogs I read each month that I decided to compile that information into a newsletter. My initial purpose was to have a resource so I could easily find things I read on the web. After a while I had so much information each month, I decided to share the information with my friends and so it grew. Now I want to share it with you. I don't copy or give out free patterns. I send all my subscribers right to the blog posts where they can see the projects and read about the bloggers.

Stranded... Hmmmm
Today I was reading The Cutting Table, Moda's newsletter, one of my favorite blogs and just had to share;

So, what 3 notions would you need to survive being shipwrecked on a dessert island with a ship load of fabric?
Her's my list
1. Clover self threading needles! A must have. My eyes aren't as good as they used to be and theses needles are the best. Once the thread is in the eye it is as secure as any other needle!
2. 10 clover seam rippers! One to hang from every coconut tree on the beach. I have a terrible time with those things. I set it down and 10 minutes later I go looking for it and it has moved somewhere else! I go get another one and it goes off to find its friend as soon as I set it down. So 10 might not be enough. But it is an awesome ripper. Just wish they would stay put!
3. And if I could only choose one ruler ( its not my most favorite but would be perfect if it was the only one) I would choose the All-in-One Ruler.
You can...
1. Cut strips
2. Cut half- and quarter-square triangles from strips.
3. Use as a bias-square ruler to square up bias units.
4. Trim points easily with the built-in point trimmer.
5. Cut 45° diamonds with ease.
So it would be perfect if you were shipwrecked, off for a sewing weekend or just for those moments when it's the only one you can reach!
And my funny must have... A sun charger for all my Apple products.. Phone, pod, pad, Mac... I would need to be able to access Dropbox for all my stored patterns!

Kaffe Fassett
WOW. Just received my copy of Shots and Stripes. Once again Kaffe has hit the ball out of the ballpark. The only thing I don't like about it is that I don't have time to sew!
I love all the patterns but this one is my favorite. It will be a camp project for sure! I am going to start cutting the pieces... As soon as I have time.
Yesterday was a first! I was working on my Baltimore Christmas and for the first time I was using my Bernina BSR foot, unplugged, because it has an open toe free motion foot. And yes! For the first time ever! I put the needle through my finger! Everyone say OUCH!
I do not recommend this adventure to anyone!
A little Second Skin, and A bandage... And I am on the road to recovery.
Day 1 on my Mac was an adventure. I must have had 50 windows open before I realized the little red, yellow and green buttons weren't just a pretty decoration! Today I plan on learning how to get my email. Actually that looks pretty easy! But of course, so does red, yellow and green!

Yup - no sewing yesterday!
Yesterday was No sew Sunday, as expected! I did manage to cut out a few of the shapes for my Baltimore Christmas block 2 and I did add a few beads to block 1.But that was it. Thursday will be our sew nite for this project and I am way behind!
Today I get my new long awaited Mac computer and although I am excited, I am also a little worried that the learning curve will be high! Well, high enough to stall me somewhat on the newsletter and there will be no time to sew!
My grandson and I were sitting in the nursery at church yesterday, and the speaker was on, and Ethan was confused by where the sound was coming from. He could hardly concentrated on his playing! Finally he came over climbed up in my lap and whispered in my ear( as only a two year old can do) "why is that guy yelling at us?" I laughed and said. "Because, he wants us to hear." Ethan continued to play but repeatedly looked at the monitor and mumbled to himself... "It's rude to yell". I wonder ... who preached the sermon to me yesterday?

Sunday sew day... Not!
Today is always my day to sew, but I don't see it in my future. The newsletter (www.notionnanny.com/newsletter.html) has totally eaten up all my free hours this week.
I really have not had a lot of free hours this week. I have been busy with little people, and life and sometimes that is way more important than being busy with work and hobbies.
My 4-5 hours a day reading blogs has created a huge amount of news for the newsletter and yesterday I spent about 4 hours on the initial stages of putting the newsletter for March together...
I did manage to sew a few borders on my embroidered blocks for my ABC quilt. I think I have twenty two blocks embroidered, and 8 blocks bordered... Still a long way to go!
I also cut out a block for the Birdhouse Quilt my girlfriend and I are sewing together, she has hers half done... Mine is still in pieces!
The Beast ( my Bernina 830) is back at the doctor's. Even though I have pretty much given up on it, Bernina has not, which is a good thing! I am glad they are working on it and hopefully this time it will come back working like a charm ( fingers crossed, but not holding my breath).
February most be hump month for most sewing rooms. I have read a lot of blogs where people are trying to clean up their sewing rooms. Probably related to cabin fever! I guess when the weather is nasty, people spend more time in their sewing rooms and get to a point where they just can't stand the mess any more... Hasn't inspired me yet to clean, but maybe I should go there! LOL.
If I do get to sew today, I will let you know!
